Guidelines for Refuse
Bin Users |
|
The Solid Waste Department of
the City has issued a leaflet
"Handy guidelines for refuse bin
users" which gives some very
good advice on refuse disposal.
Some of the more important
points as applicable to Royal
Ascot are summarised here. |
|
If there are specific problems
or enquiries regarding refuse
removal in Royal Ascot, contact
Mr Van Rooy at 076 _164 5452. |
|
• |
Household refuse MUST be placed
in black bags which must be tied
at the top - these MUST be
placed inside the refuse bin.
Bags may not be placed next to
bins. |
|
• |
In Royal Ascot refuse is
collected on Monday mornings,
including public holidays. Bins
must be placed out in the street
early on Monday mornings and not
the day before. Residents must
deliver their bins to their
respective bin rooms either on
Sunday evenings or very early on
Monday mornings. (Each precinct
has specific rules re the use of
the bin room - please make sure
you know what they are). |
|
• |
DO NOT put any of the following
in the bin: builder's rubble,
stones, rocks, sand, oil, metal
like engine parts, medical or
hazardous waste and liquids.
These items damage the working
parts of the compacting system
on the refuse collection truck.
(See below
for disposal of these items). |
|
• |
Available space in the bin may
be topped up with leaves and
grass cuttings. Larger sticks,
branches and similar garden
refuse must be taken to a
drop-off site (see
below). |
|
• |
DO NOT overfill or overload the
bin - the lid should close
completely. If the lid cannot
close properly, the bin lifting
mechanism of the collection
truck may be damaged or not work
properly. |
|
• |
Keep your bin safe and secure at
all times. Bins are owned by the
City of Cape Town and are
allocated to residential
properties for refuse removal
purposes. In the event of theft
or damage to a Council bin, the
bin will be replaced without
cost, except in the case of
negligence in which case the
property owner is liable for
replacement costs. |
|
Garden refuse, builder's rubble
and other refuse not suitable
for bin removal, can be taken to
the nearest Council drop-off
facility. These facilities are
open Monday to Sunday 07h30 -
17h30, including public
holidays. |
|
Our nearest drop-off facility is
in Potsdam Road just before the
entrance to the Killarney Race
Track (on your left as you
travel north in Potsdam Rd, just
over half a kilometer from the
Koeberg Rd/Blaauwberg Rd
junction). |
|
E-waste, ie broken electrical
and electronic equipment cannot
be discarded at any drop-off
facility, but only at the
Wynberg drop-off facility in
Rosmead Avenue. |
